Semen Washing for Insemination ( IUI)

• What is an IUI?
  An IUI - intrauterine insemination - through the cervix washed sperm directly injecting into the uterus.
• How is it done?
  Is performed by threading a very thin flexible catheter through the cervix and injecting washed sperm directly into the uterus.
• What does "sperm washing" mean?
  A: It is also called sperm preparation. It is a laboratory technique for separating motile sperm from semen, (Separating motile sperm from non-motile sperm, Pus cells, RBCs & Seminal plasma for use in assisted reproduction )

Various techniques for semen wash.

• Swim up technique.
  In cases of severe oligozoospermia and/or asthenozoospermia, density gradients are preferable to the ‘swim-up’ method because of the improved recoveries obtained. Moreover the scale and composition of the gradient can be altered to meet the specific needs of individual samples.
• Signal layer density gradient technique.
• Double layer density gradient technique.

Semen Collection Instructions for Wash & Freezing.

Methods	» Semen specimens should be collected by MASTURBATION ONLY into a clean, wide-mouth container. Our lab prefers that you collect in our collection rooms. » Do not use a condom for collection and do not use creams or lubricants during the collection.
Where?	The specimen must be collected at INDIAN SPERMTECH. to allow it to be analysed and processed immediately. You may collect the specimen at home as long as you can deliver it to the INDIAN SPERMTECH. With in 30 min. (Do NOT refrigerate the specimen or allow its temperature to rise above body temperature before delivery.)
Container	A sterile plastic specimen Container, supplied by your doctor or INDIAN SPERMTECH.

The container should be labeled with the following information:

• Your Full Name & Your Partner
• Date & Time of Collection
• Your Doctor’s Name
• Method of Collection of the Specimen
• It is important that the entire ejaculate is collected. If collection is incomplete, please inform to lab.
• Your Last Ejaculation

Semen Specimens for Washing for Insemination ( IUI)

Sexual Abstinence	According to Advised by your doctor
Delivery timing	minimum 60-90 minutes after collection time of specimen
When?	Monday – Saturday (  08:30 am   to  08:00 pm ). Sunday : by prior appointment only.

Semen Specimens for Freezing (Cryopreservation)

Sexual Abstinence	Unless otherwise advised by your doctor, three days should have elapsed since your last ejaculation before collection of semen for cryopreservation
